Visit Drenthe

Drenthe is a province within the Netherlands. It's known for its picturesque rolling green hills, vast forests and heathlands, beautiful lakes and rivers, centuries-old villages, thatched-roof farmhouses, and many historical monuments.

For those looking to explore Drenthe's many attractions there are several must-see locations. First is the Hunebedcentrum in Borger which houses five of the oldest megalithic tombs in Europe as well as an impressive museum showcasing early tools used by prehistoric people. Second is Dwingeloo Radio Observatory which was built in 1956 and has since been used to collect data on cosmic radio signals from distant galaxies.

An interesting fact about Drenthe is that it was once home to a people called the Frisii who lived here over 2000 years ago. The Frisii were believed to have had their own language and law but this information has been lost to history over time. Today visitors can still visit important archaeological sites that belonged to the Frisii such as burial mounds or tumuli around Borger and Emmen.
