Visit Overijssel

Overijssel is one of the twelve provinces of the Netherlands. It is located on the eastern side of the country, in between the provinces of Gelderland and Friesland. Overijssel is known for its traditional Dutch cities and its stunning natural landscapes, with rivers, canals, forests and meadows.

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Overijssel is Giethoorn; a picturesque waterside village filled with traditional Dutch houses along canals. Here travelers can go boat tours or rent their own boats to explore its many canals. Another popular destination here is Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park where visitors can enjoy walking and cycling trails through breathtaking nature reserves and wetlands.

Overijssel has a long history dating back to the 9th century when it was first established as part of Frisia. This area was later incorporated into Holland during Napoleon's rule in 1811 but regained autonomy after his defeat in 1815. Today, Overijssel remains an important center for industry, agriculture, trade and tourism in Europe.
