The Bay of Plenty is a large bay on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. Located between the Coromandel Peninsula and East Cape, it has become a popular tourist destination due to its stunning scenery and variety of activities. Tourists can enjoy kayaking, fishing, surfing, or simply soaking up the sun on some of the many beaches. There are also plenty of opportunities for adventure such as mountain biking or taking in the views from Mt Maunganui.

A visit to the Bay wouldn't be complete without exploring White Island, an active volcano located just off shore and home to rare geothermal wonders such as steaming fumaroles and bubbling mud pools. Another great place to explore is Rotorua, known for its hot springs and geysers as well as unique Maori culture and heritage sites like Te Puia Thermal Valley.

One interesting historical fact about this area is that during World War 2 it was used by allied forces for training exercises in preparation for several key battles including D-Day in Normandy. This legacy lives on today as visitors can still find remnants from this period at some local sites around Tauranga harbour including parts of an old army camp that have been preserved over time.
