The Manawatu-Wanganui region of New Zealand is located on the North Island's west coast. It's known for its extreme sports and adventure offerings, ranging from skydiving to mountain biking, as well as stunning natural landscapes. The region is home to two national parks - Tongariro National Park and Whanganui National Park - both of which offer visitors an abundance of outdoor activities. Popular tourist attractions in the area include Te Wairere Falls, a 263 meter cascading waterfall near the small town of Taumarunui; and Lake Taupo, one of New Zealand's largest lakes with spectacular views all year round. For those interested in history and culture, a visit to Whanganui River Village will provide insight into Maori culture, having been home to ancient settlements more than 700 years ago. A unique fact about Manawatu-Wanganui is that it was the first province in New Zealand to give women the right to vote back in 1893.
