Boaco is a department of Nicaragua located in the central region of the country. It is bordered to the north by Chontales, to the east by Rivas and Masaya, to the south by Granada, and to the west by Carazo. Boaco has an area of 3,081 km2 and a population of approximately 130 thousand inhabitants. The capital city is Boaco City.

Tourist attractions in Boaco include El Jicaro Park, which overlooks a beautiful gorge with lush vegetation and abundant wildlife; Laguna de Apoyo Nature Reserve; San Jacinto Hot Springs; La Mina Falls; several nature reserves; churches dating back centuries ago like Iglesia Santa Maria Magdalena in Sabana Grande or Iglesia Beata Ana in Santa Lucia.;and Los Arboles National Monument.

A historical fact about Boaco is that it was once part of Granada during colonial times until 1824 when Nicaragua declared its independence from Spain. Other important events that happened here include Don Tomas Martinez's government who fought against William Walker's troops in 1856-57 as well as revolutions led by Augusto Cesar Sandino and Carlos Fonseca Amador between 1927-1979 which ultimately led to Nicaragua's modern era.
