Visit Agadez

Agadez is a vibrant oasis in the heart of the Sahara Desert in Niger. Located at the crossroads of two caravan routes, it has been an important cultural and commercial hub for centuries. With its dazzling mosque, lively souks, and impressive old city walls, Agadez is a fascinating place to visit. Two must-see tourist sites are Grand Mosque d'Agadez, a grand structure made of clay bricks that soars up into the sky; and Agadez Regional Museum, which houses an incredible collection of artifacts depicting local history. There is also some interesting local handicrafts to pick up as souvenirs in the markets or from tiny shops along the streets. Another noteworthy fact about Agadez is its prominent role as a center for trans-Saharan slave trade during ancient times. It was once one of West Africa's primary hubs for this activity until it was abolished by France in 1904.
