Visit Dosso Region

The Dosso Region is an administrative region in Niger, located in the west-central portion of the country. It has an area of 29,702 square kilometers and borders Benin to the south and Burkina Faso to the southwest. The capital is Dosso town.

Dosso region boasts a wide variety of attractions for tourists. One must see destination is Faro National Park, which offers fantastically diverse wildlife experiences like bird watching and game viewing. It also contains archaeological sites where visitors can learn about the area's history. Another notable spot is Dogondoutchi Mosque, which was constructed entirely with mud bricks in 1241 by Askia Mohamed Toure; it stands as a lasting testimony to early African architecture and engineering skills.

An interesting historical fact about this region dates back over 500 years ago when it served as one of West Africa's most important commercial hubs for salt trade between sub-Saharan Africa and North Africa via trans-Saharan trade routes known as "Ghadames Road" or "Salt Road" due to its importance for salt transportation from Taghaza (a city on Southern Algeria) across Niger's Sahara desert towards Timbuktu (Mali).
