Visit Tahoua Region


The Tahoua Region of Niger is located in the west-central part of the country and is known for its rich culture and history. Its capital city, Tahoua, has been historically important to the region as it served as a hub for trade between sub-Saharan Africa and North Africa.

Tourists visiting this region are able to experience a variety of historical sites such as Agadez Grand Mosque, which was built in the 16th century by Moroccan traders; Kaouar Oasis, an oasis with ancient ruins; and Maouri Canyons, an area full of beautiful rock formations.

Aside from sightseeing, visitors can also get involved in traditional activities such as pottery making or jewelry crafting in local artisans' workshops. In addition to these activities there are also plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure such as hiking or exploring nearby wildlife reserves.

Historically speaking Tahoua Region has played an important role since prehistory due to its abundant resources like salt deposits that were used by many civilizations that passed through the region. The area is also home to various archaeological sites like Abu Hombori rock shelter which have provided us with evidence about early human activity in this region.
