Visit Zinder Region


The Zinder Region of Niger is a place of great cultural and historical significance. It's the birthplace of the Djerma Songhay culture, which has a long history that dates back to the 15th century. Located in eastern Niger and bordered by Benin, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso, it covers an area of about 73,867 km2.

The region is known for its lush landscapes and vibrant culture. Visitors can explore sites like National Museum Complex de Zinder which showcases artifacts from local cultures such as Hausa-Fulani, Tuareg, Kanuri or Songhai people. Tourists can also visit Gajiganna Waterfalls in Matankari village or former Sultan's Palace Complex in Birni Gazargamu .

Historically speaking, it was occupied by European forces during the French colonial period from 1932 until 1960 when Niger achieved its independence. Zinder Region played an important role in helping to shape modern day Niger with many cultural establishments still evident today.
