Borno State, located in northeastern Nigeria, is known for its culture and history. It is the home of the Kanuri people who are known for their colorful traditional dress. Within Borno State lies Lake Chad which has served as an important source of water to the local population since ancient times. The city of Maiduguri, often referred to as the "gateway" to Africa's Sahel region, serves as Borno's capital.

For tourists visiting Borno State, a visit to Yerwa archaeological site is a must-see! This site from around 900 BCE includes artifacts including pottery fragments that hint at life during pre-colonial times in the area. Another must-see spot for tourists is Baga town along Lake Chad which serves as a gateway for fishermen and traders coming from Niger and Cameroon into Nigeria.
