Visit Delta State

Delta State is located in the south-south region of Nigeria and one of the 36 states of the Federal Republic. The state was created in 1991 from its predecessor, Bendel State. Delta has 25 local government areas and a population of over 4 million people. Asaba is the capital city and other major cities include Warri, Sapele, Ughelli, Oghara and Effurun.

The state is awash with tourist attractions ranging from historical sites to modern recreational parks. The famous Ogbeogonogo Market in Asaba is a popular spot for sightseers as well as cultural enthusiasts looking to experience a bustling African marketplace culture. Other noteworthy attractions include Udu Beach, Okirika River Cruise Experience, Ogume Waterfalls and Kirikiri Lighter Terminal & Museum which gives visitors an insight into the maritime history of Nigeria's Delta Region.

Delta State also boasts some interesting historical facts; It was one of 3 states that signed the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) charter - an agency created to address developmental issues in oil producing states; It also played host to some major events during Nigeria's independence celebrations such as grand parades at Midwestern University Stadium (now known as Stephen Keshi Stadium).
