Visit Enugu State

Enugu State is a state in southeastern Nigeria, bordered by Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo states. It is the capital of the coal-rich Igbo people and home to the Enugu International Airport. The major cities are Enugu (the state capital) and Nsukka.

The most popular tourist attraction in Enugu State is the Nike Lake Resort. This luxurious resort features a pool, golf course, spa, playgrounds and several restaurants offering local Nigerian cuisine. Other attractions include Ama Ime Obi Park, Okpara Square and Udi Hills Resort & Golf Course.

Enugu has an interesting history all its own; it was originally founded as a small mining town during British colonial rule in 1909 under Governor Lugard's direction with the name 'Udi Hills' after its highest peak that stands at 860 metres above sea level. The area was later renamed 'Enugwu Ngwo' which means 'hill top' before eventually becoming known today as Enugu State.
