Kwara State is a state in Nigeria's western region, located in the middle belt of the country. The capital is Ilorin, and it is home to over 3 million people. It has a rich cultural heritage with many different ethnic groups such as the Yorubas, Nupe and Fulanis. It also boasts plenty of tourist attractions including Esie Museum, which was established in 1945 and showcases artifacts from all over West Africa; the rolling hills at Patigi and Oro; and Jebba Lake - considered one of Nigeria's most beautiful secret spots. One interesting fact about Kwara State is that it was created by military decree on May 27th 1967 during the regime of General Yakubu Gowon due to its significant population size compared to other states in Nigeria at that time.
