Visit Kangwŏn


Kangwon is a province of North Korea located in the country's northeast region. It is bordered to the north by Russia and China, to the east by Yanggang Province, and to the south by South Korea. The province has many tourist attractions; among them are Kumgangsan National Tourist Region, where visitors can enjoy beautiful mountain scenery, recreational activities such as camping and hiking, and Changin Hot Spring Park with its natural hot springs. Another popular tourist spot is Myohyangsan Mountain, known for its pristine forests and breathtaking views of valleys and rivers.

Kangwon also has a rich history; it was one of three main provinces during ancient Korean history that comprised part of the powerful Goguryeo kingdom (37 BCE - 668 CE). Today it remains an important cultural center with many traditional monuments from Goguryeo-era still standing in various locations throughout Kangwon.
