Visit P’yŏngbuk

P'yongbuk is a province in North Korea located in the northeast of the country. Its capital city is P'yongsan and it borders China, South Hamgyong Province and Ryanggang Province. It has an area of 15,948 km2 and a population of 1,743,812 people as of 2018.

P'yongbuk offers a variety of historical and cultural attractions for visitors to explore. Two must-see places are Kaesong City which was once the capital of Koryo Dynasty which ruled from 918-1392; and Mount Kuwol, located halfway between Pyongyang and Wonsan City, boasting stunning views and hiking trails.

One interesting historical fact about P'yongbuk is that it was part of the Japanese colonial empire until 1945 when Korea was liberated from Japan's rule at the end of World War II. Today it remains one of the poorest provinces in North Korea due to its remote location and lack of economic development opportunities.
