Visit P’yŏngyang


P'yongyang is the capital and largest city of North Korea. It is located on both sides of the Taedong River, which runs through the center of the city. Its population is estimated to be around 3 million people. P'yongyang has many tourist attractions and sites worth visiting such as the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun and Kim Il Sung Square. The Kumsusan Palace was built in 1976 as a mausoleum for Kim Il Sung, North Korea's former President, while Kim Ilsung square hosts military parades and mass demonstrations for celebrating national holidays. Another interesting historical fact about P'yongyang is that it was founded in 1122 by King Kongmin who made it his capital at that time. Today, visitors can still see some of its ancient ruins such as Jongmyo Shrine or Anhak Palace which were constructed during this period. Overall P'yongyang offers a unique mix between its modern architecture alongside its traditional buildings from different eras that give visitors an interesting glimpse into North Korea's history and culture.
