Potong Gate is the western gate of the inner complex of the walled city of Pyongyang. It was originally built in the sixth century as an official Koguryo construction, and was later rebuilt in 1473. It features a granite base topped by a two-story pavilion.

Plan your visit

  1. Follow the laws and etiquette of North Korea. Respect local customs, traditions, and dress conservatively when in public spaces.
  2. Avoid bringing electronic devices or media that could be considered political–such as books with images of the South Korean flag or pictures of its leaders–into the country as these items may be confiscated at the border.
  3. Be aware that photography is strictly regulated within North Korea so avoid taking photos unless given express permission to do so from a tour guide or government official.
  4. Remain vigilant when travelling around Pyongyang and other parts of North Korea; foreign travellers are monitored closely by authorities who can detain individuals for alleged violations of national laws and customs regulations without warning or due process rights being afforded them under international law standards applicable to criminal proceedings worldwide.. 5 Watch out for pickpockets who take advantage of crowded places such as markets and tourist spots in Pyongyang; remain vigilant at all times
