Visit Pelagonia

Pelagonia is a region of northern Macedonia located between the Vardar and Struma rivers, and bordering Albania and Greece. It is known for its distinctive culture, with a long history of producing fine wines and unique cuisine. The region's capital, Bitola, is home to some of the country's best-preserved Ottoman architecture from the 19th century.

One must-see destination in Pelagonia is Heraclea Lyncestis: an ancient city dating back to 4th century BC which features well-preserved ruins including a theatre, fountain houses and a Roman bath complex. For those seeking outdoor activities, the Galichica National Park offers hiking trails along stunning lakeshores that offer views of Macedonia's highest peak - Golem Korab Mountain (2,764m).

An interesting historical fact about Pelagonia comes from Ancient Macedonian mythology: it was believed that Pelagon was one of two sons born to Zeus by Thyia - Queen of Macedon - thus making him one of the first kings in Greek mythology.
