Visit Southern Norway


Southern Norway is a region of Norway made up of the counties of Agder, Vest-Agder, Telemark and Rogaland. It is located in the southwestern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, bordered by Sweden to the east and west. In this region lies some of Norway's most beautiful national parks and fjords, making it a superb holiday destination.

The Kjeragbolten rock formation in Lysefjorden is one must-visit location when vacationing in Southern Norway. This iconic boulder wedged between two massive rocks hundreds of meters above the fjord has become an enduring symbol of Norwegian nature and beauty. Another interesting spot to visit is Stavanger Cathedral, built during the 12th century and completely renovated during the late 19th century. The old medieval buildings on site are sure to take your breath away!

The history of Southern Norway dates back to ancient times; it was home to many Viking settlements which later became cities like Bergen and Stavanger that still exist today! A fascinating fact about Southern Norway's past is that it was once part of Denmark until 1814 when it joined forces with Sweden as part its Union Agreement with them before finally becoming an independent nation in 1905.
