Visit Enga

The Enga are an ethnic group of about 200,000 people living in the central highlands of Papua New Guinea. The Enga are known for their strong cultural identity and traditional values that have been passed down through generations. Enga culture is characterized by colorful ceremonial dress, elaborate body art, storytelling and music-making.

Visitors to the area can explore several interesting tourist spots such as Mount Hagen's famous Tari Gap - a sacred site where spectacular views of the surrounding hills can be seen, as well as the Tumbuna Cultural Centre - which showcases traditional artifacts and provides insight into traditional ways of life in the region.

An interesting historical fact about the Enga is that they were some of the first to inhabit Papua New Guinea nearly 40,000 years ago. They were also among one of few tribes who remained largely untouched by colonizers because of their isolated geographic location in remote mountain ranges.
