Visit Jiwaka


Jiwaka is a province located on the mountainous New Guinea mainland in Papua New Guinea. It was originally established in 2012 and is now home to around 253,000 people.

The region offers some stunning landscapes and cultural experiences such as traditional Papuan villages, bird watching, taro gardens, crystal clear mountain rivers full of rainbow trout and amazing views of lush green highlands. Nature lovers are sure to have a great time exploring the area's various walking trails, waterfalls and hot springs while also enjoying local traditions like firewalking ceremonies.

Popular places to visit include Wabag town which has one of PNG's most spectacular markets as well as Mt Wilhelm National Park with its breathtaking views and challenging walks up the tallest peak in PNG at 4509 metres above sea level.

An interesting fact about Jiwaka is that it was historically known for being the birthplace of legendary tribal warrior Tumbainot who led his people against Japanese forces during World War II and was awarded a Military Cross by King George VI for bravery during battle.
