The Western Province, also known as Fly, is one of the 22 provinces of Papua New Guinea. It is home to many diverse cultures and languages which make up the core of its society. The province has a wide range of attractions, from the mountains in the east to the lowland jungles in its south-west corner. Tourists can go on a guided tour along Lake Murray or explore Mount Bosavi for an amazing view from atop. They can also visit South Fly River for fishing and river-rafting activities or take a hike around Huli villages where they can observe ancient rituals and traditional dances. The region is also steeped in history with evidence suggesting human habitation going back over 50,000 years! Other interesting historical facts include that Dutch traders were among some of the first Europeans to visit this area during their attempts at colonization in 17th century.
