Visit Amazonas

The Amazonas of Peru is a lush and vibrant region that consists of many rivers, tributaries, lagoons and rainforests. It is located in the northern part of Peru and borders Colombia, Ecuador and Brazil. It is a popular tourist destination due to its array of unique wildlife, diverse cultures and natural beauty.

One popular tourist attraction is the Gocta Cataracts which are located near Chachapoyas. This area offers stunning views of the cascading waterfalls that plummet over 771 meters into a deep canyon below. Visitors can also explore the nearby archaeological sites such as Kuelap Fortress which dates back to 500 AD or take a boat trip along local rivers like the Maranon River to spot exotic wildlife along its banks like pink river dolphins or capybaras.

The Amazonas also has an interesting history with evidence suggesting it was home to some large pre-Inca civilizations such as Chachapoyas, Chancay and Pucara who were likely related to those found further south in Cusco. The Spanish conquistadors arrived here in 1539 but many indigenous communities were able to resist colonization until late into the 19th century due to their remote location within dense jungle vegetation.
