Visit Áncash

The Ancash region of Peru is an incredible destination full of natural beauty, cultural richness, and historical significance. Located in the northern part of the country, Ancash is well known for its lush mountain landscapes, fast flowing rivers and spectacular deep canyons. The region is home to the ancient civilization of Chavin de Huantar, whose advanced architecture dates back to 900 BC.

One popular tourist location in Ancash is the city of Huaraz - a bustling hub surrounded by snow-capped mountains that offer amazing trekking opportunities. There are also plenty of hot springs located throughout the area for visitors looking to relax and enjoy some mineral-rich soaking pools.

Ancash also has an important place in Peruvian history; it was here that Jose de San Martin declared Peru's independence from Spain on July 28th 1821. Today you can visit a number of historically significant sites such as Plaza Mayor de Huari where this event took place or visit monuments like El Monumento del Ejercito Libertador at the Plaza de Armas in Huaraz which celebrate Peru's struggle for freedom.
