Visit Arequipa


Arequipa, located in southern Peru, is a vibrant city rich with culture and history. Known as the White City due to its use of white volcanic rock, it's one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Arequipa is home to a variety of UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Santa Catalina Monastery and Juanita Museum. The monastery, dating back to 1580, is an iconic part of Arequipa's skyline and provides visitors with an amazing view from its terraces. The museum features artifacts from Incan sacrifices from over 500 years ago as well as mummies found in the nearby El Misti volcano. Other tourist attractions include Plaza de Armas (main square) where you can find beautiful colonial buildings, many churches and cathedrals known for their intricate interiors, and Museo Santuarios Andinos which houses some incredible Incan remains like those found at Machu Picchu. An interesting historical fact about Arequipa is that it was the birthplace of renowned Peruvian poet Cesar Vallejo who wrote extensively about his homeland's customs and people while living there in 1912-1916.
