Visit Huancavelica


Huancavelica is a city in the Andean region of Peru, located in the southern highlands at an altitude of 3,660 meters. It is known for its historical background and culture, which dates back to pre-Columbian times. The city has several interesting attractions to explore including the colonial churches of San Francisco and La Merced, as well as the Huancavelica Mercado where visitors can sample regional delicacies such as cecina (dried llama meat). Visitors should also take time to explore the archaeological site of Chavin de Huantar nearby. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was built by ancient cultures before Incan times and contains some remarkable carved sculptures and stone architecture that reflect their beliefs. Additionally, Huancavelica has a rich history associated with silver mining during Spanish colonial rule. In fact, it was referred to as "The Silver City" due to its abundance of precious metal deposits.
