Visit Junín

Junin is a region in the central highlands of Peru, located between the departments of Pasco, Lima and Huanuco. It is known for its rich cultural heritage and picturesque landscape. The city of Junin de los Andes, the capital of the region, offers plenty to see and do. One must visit Plaza Bolognesi to take in the stunning architecture and fountains that line this public square. Tourists should also check out Cerro El Calvario for incredible views across Junin from its summit.

The area has a fascinating history that dates back to pre-Columbian times when it was home to various cultures such as Chavin and Chimu. During colonial times it was an important hub on what was called La Ruta del Sol (The Sun Route). Today visitors can learn about this period at the Archaeology Museum housed in historic San Agustin Monastery or head out on one of many hiking trails in Tauca National Park for a glimpse into Peru's diverse flora and fauna.
