Visit La Libertad

La Libertad is a department located in the northern region of Peru. It is known for its beautiful beaches, archaeological ruins, and colonial architecture. Among its most popular tourist attractions are the Moche Temples of the Sun and Moon in Trujillo, which contain pre-Incan ruins from around 100AD. In Huanchaco Beach you can find traditional fishermen riding on their boats made out of reeds--a popular sight to behold!

Near La Libertad you can also visit Chan Chan, one of the largest ancient cities of South America. It was built by the Chimu culture between 1100-1450 AD and is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Another interesting historical fact about La Libertad is that it was part of the viceroyalty of Peru during Spanish rule, making it one of the oldest colonial areas in Peru. From here many conquistadors set out to explore other areas in Latin America!
