Visit Pasco

The Pasco Region, located in east-central Peru, is a stunning region of picturesque Andean peaks known as the Cordillera Oriental. It's the gateway to some of Peru's most impressive scenery and offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Tourists can explore the various native communities, delve into its rich cultural heritage and enjoy a host of activities from trekking to bird watching.

One must-see stop is La Laguna de Chinchaycocha, a beautiful glacial lake situated in one of the highest altitudes in the region (4100m). Boating or fishing are popular activities here, while binoculars are recommended for spotting flocks of wild ducks.

Another highlight is Pablo Sexto's Museum & Cultural Centre which displays local artifacts such as traditional Colonial-era furniture and pottery from nearby villages in Hualhuas District. Visitors can learn about Pasco's fascinating history through interactive exhibits which bring together music, textiles and photos that show how the inhabitants have lived over centuries past.

An interesting fact about Pasco is that it was once part of Bolivia until 1839 when it was ceded back to Peru after a series of border disputes between both countries were resolved by an agreement ratified by Chile becoming intermediator during those discussions.
