Visit Puno


Puno is a city located in the southeastern region of Peru and is known as the folkloric capital of the country. This vibrant city, with a population of approximately 130.000, is situated at more than 12,500 feet above sea level on the shores of beautiful Lake Titicaca.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Puno region is The Uros Floating Islands, built by pre-Incan people who used totora reeds to make them float on top of lake Titicaca water. Visitors can learn all about their history and culture by spending a day with one family living there. Another great spot for tourists to visit is Sillustani Archaeological Complex which features interesting burial towers built by pre-Inca civilizations that ruled this area centuries ago.

Puno was founded in 1668 by viceroy Melchor de Navarra y Rocafull making it one of oldest cities in Peru and an important landmark for its colonial history preserved until today.
