Manila

The National Capital Region of the Philippines, otherwise known as Metro Manila, is the most densely populated city in the world. It is composed of 16 cities, including the nation's capital of Manila. This bustling metropolis is home to over 12 million people and is a hub for culture, history, entertainment and nightlife.

When visiting Metro Manila there are many sites to explore. The historic walled city of Intramuros dates back to 1571 when it was constructed by Spanish settlers and remains largely intact today with its cobblestone streets and iconic fortifications. Also be sure to check out Rizal Park which pays tribute to Philippine's national hero Jose Rizal with statues and monuments scattered throughout its gardens.

Metro Manila has a rich history that spans hundreds of years but one interesting fact stands out in particular - it was ruled by Japan during WWII from 1942-1945 before being liberated by allied forces in 1945.
