Visit Saint-Denis

Saint-Denis is a beautiful coastal city located on the French Indian Ocean island of Reunion. It is the capital and largest city of the region, and its culture is a mix of French, African, Indian, Chinese, and Malagasy influences. Its central location makes it an ideal base for exploring all that Reunion has to offer.

Tourists will love taking in breathtaking views from Mt. Bourbon or La Possession Bay--both within easy reach from Saint-Denis. The Musee Leon Dierx contains an impressive collection of artworks from local and international artists alike, while nature lovers will appreciate a visit to the Jardin d'Eden botanical gardens.

The oldest church in Reunion--the Notre Dame Cathedral--can be found in Saint-Denis' historic town center and offers visitors a glimpse into the past through its neo-classical architecture and frescoes dating back to 1827. The city also played an important role during World War II by serving as headquarters for Charles de Gaulle's Free France Forces in 1940 before they were forced to retreat to Britain.
