Visit Sud-Vest Oltenia


Sud-Vest Oltenia is a region of Romania located in the southern reaches of the country. It is marked by rolling hills, green forests, and beautiful rivers like the Danube and Jiu. The region is known for its rich cultural history and traditional dishes including stuffed cabbage rolls and horse meat sausages.

One popular tourist destination is Slatina, where visitors can find the ruins of an old medieval church built in 1527 as well as cobbled streets that wind through the town. Another spot to check out is Corabia, home to one of Romania's oldest cities. Here you can see remnants from Roman times including an amphitheater dating back to 2 AD.

If you're looking for a bit of history during your trip be sure not to miss Turnu Severin. During World War II it was home to a concentration camp where thousands were imprisoned or executed by Nazi forces during their occupation of Romania in 1941-1944.
