Visit North Caucasus


The North Caucasus of Russia is a region stretching from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea, and is home to a remarkable variety of cultures and landscapes. The towering snow-capped peaks of the Caucasus Mountains are an incredibly popular destination for hikers, mountain climbers, and skiers alike. The lush valleys provide plenty of opportunity for outdoor recreation such as biking, boating, fishing, hunting and more.

Historically the region has been known by many names including Circassia and has been home to ancient civilizations since at least 4th century BC. One particularly interesting historical fact is that this area was once part of the Silk Road trade route linking Europe with Asia.

There are many touristy locations worth visiting in the North Caucasus such as Mount Elbrus-the highest peak in Europe located on Russia's border with Georgia -and Kizlyar Fortress which dates back to 16th-17th centuries AD. With its breathtaking scenery, diverse culture and rich history it's no wonder why this region attracts so many travelers every year!
