Visit Eastern Province

The Eastern Province of Rwanda is rich in cultural history and stunning landscapes. Located in the eastern part of the country, it is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The region contains a variety of attractions including majestic mountains, lush forests and rolling hills.

A popular tourist destination is Nyungwe National Park which offers visitors an opportunity to spot wild animals such as chimpanzees and colobus monkeys while taking a nature walk through the park's rainforest trails. Additionally, Akagera National Park allows visitors to go on safari adventures where they can observe amazing wildlife species like lions, elephants and giraffes.

The province has a fascinating history as well; it was home to one of the largest mass killings during the Rwandan genocide that took place in 1994 when over half a million people were killed due to ethnic violence between Tutsis and Hutus. Today this area serves as a reminder for future generations about this dark time in Rwanda's history.
