Visit Kigali district

Kigali is the capital and largest city of Rwanda. Located in the geographical heart of the country, it is home to almost one million people. It has a temperate climate, gorgeous scenery, and plenty of things to do and explore.

Kigali boasts several attractions for tourists, such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial which serves as a tribute to those lost during the 1994 Rwandan genocide; Kandt House Museum of Natural History, an interactive museum that features exhibits about Kigali's history; Kimironko Market, where you can buy handicrafts made by local artisans; Inema Arts Center for live music performances; and Nyamirambo Women's Centre for learning more about traditional Rwandan culture.

A must-see historical site in Kigali is Nyanza Palace, built in 1895 by King Ruganzu II Ndoli. The palace was destroyed during World War I and then again during the Rwandan genocide but has since been restored to its former glory and now houses a regional museum with art from all over Rwanda.
