Visit Satupa'itea

Satupa'itea is a village in the island nation of Samoa. It is located on the south-central coast of Upolu, and it serves as the traditional capital of Samoa's eastern district. The village takes its name from Satupa'itea, a mountain peak near the village which is said to have been formed by Tagaloa -- a figure in Samoan mythology -- throwing his spear into the ground to mark where he rested after creating the islands.

The main attraction for tourists visiting Satupa'itea is its beautiful beachfronts, which offer wonderful views along with access to some unique local wildlife including green sea turtles. Other activities include hiking up Satupa'itea peak or taking a boat ride out to view nearby coral reefs and tropical fish beneath crystal-clear waters.

Satupa'itea has played an important role in Samoan history since ancient times, with records indicating that for centuries it served as both an important religious site and political center for Samoan royalty during times of war or social upheaval. Today it continues to be an important cultural center for those living in East Upolu, serving as home to many traditional festivals and celebrations throughout the year.
