Visit Dakar

Dakar

Dakar is the capital of Senegal, located on the westernmost tip of the African continent. It is a bustling port city with a diverse population that has influences from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

As a tourist destination, Dakar offers an array of attractions to explore. One must-see spot is the Island of Goree; this former slave trading post has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers visitors a glimpse into Senegal's history. Nature lovers can also head to Pointe des Almadies, where they can see beautiful beaches on one side or explore rocky cliffs on the other.

In addition to its sights and scenery, Dakar also boasts an intriguing past. Founded in 1857 by French settlers, it was once known as Cap Vert or "Green Cape" due to its lush vegetation - something still visible today in spots around this coastal city. It served as an important outpost for French imperialism which lasted until 1960 when Senegal declared its independence from France.
