Visit Louga

The region of Louga is an area located in the North-west of Senegal, on the border with Mauritania. It is a culturally rich region, known for its historical sites and outstanding natural beauty. Here one can witness traditional African life in its full glory and take part in festivals such as Gamou, which celebrates the end of Ramadan or African Wrestling Championships.

One popular tourist attraction is Rogne, which features ancient ruins and a museum of archaeological artifacts alongside incredible views across rolling hillsides. The city also has some interesting contemporary art galleries such as L'atelier 2 Generation 91 where one can admire artwork produced by local talent.

History buffs will find plenty to appreciate here too; Louga was once part of the kingdom founded by Maba Diakhou Ba who ruled from 1750 to 1867 after unifying many different ethnic groups around this area. Tourists looking for that special something should visit Sangalkam: it is known for Magal (a festival dedicated to Mame Bou Seck) where people from all over Africa come together to celebrate their culture through music, dance and theatre performances.
