The Banskobystricky region, or province, of Slovakia lies in the central east part of the country and is home to a host of cultural attractions. With its charming towns and peaceful countryside, this region has something for everyone.

Not far from Banska Bystrica sits another must-see spot - Kremnica town center which was founded in 1328 as a mint for coins known as Kremenecksy Groschen.

This area has seen significant historical events throughout its long history including being headquarters for Slovak rebel forces at various times during World War II up until their liberation from Nazis forces by Soviet troops in 1945.
