The Rennell and Bellona Province of the Solomon Islands is a World Heritage Site located approximately 100 miles south of Honiara, the capital city. This province is known for its stunning natural beauty and offers some of the best diving and snorkeling experiences in the world. The island is made up of two islands, Rennell Island which is also known as Mungava, and Bellona Island or Nu-Te-Io Gauega.

One popular tourist destination on Rennell Island is Lake Tegano which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its unique hydrogeology and giant land crabs. It's also home to the tallest underwater volcano in the Pacific Ocean which can be seen from certain vantage points on land. On Bellona Island visitors can explore caves with pre-historic drawings as well as hike up to Mt Tanguai for spectacular views across both islands.

Not only does this region offer beautiful scenery but it's also steeped in history with many archaeological sites found on both islands that are evidence of human habitation over 3,000 years ago. A noteworthy historical fact about this area is that during WWII Japanese forces occupied both islands until their defeat by American forces in 1943 at what would become know as The Battle of Rennell & Bellona Islands.
