Visit Awdal

Awdal is a region in the western part of Somalia. It stretches from the northern coast to the Ethiopian border, and its capital city is Borama. The region has some of Somalia's most beautiful attractions, including white-sand beaches along its coastline and ancient archaeological sites on its interior lands.

One popular touristy site is Las Geel, an Neolithic cave-art complex in Awdal consisting of numerous rock shelters adorned with paintings depicting hunting scenes and animals. It is one of the earliest examples of pastoralist art in East Africa that dates back to 5,000 years ago.

Another location for tourists to visit is Mount Daallo - Somalia's highest peak at 2,450 meters - a great place for hikers and nature lovers alike who want to explore its stunning landscapes.

An interesting historical fact about this region relates to the late 19th century when Mohamed Zubeir Sanguba established his Sultanate here by unifying several nomadic Somali clans under his rule - giving rise to modern Awdal State as it exists today.
