Visit Gedo

Gedo is the largest region in Somalia, located in the south-west. It borders Ethiopia to the south and Kenya to the west. Gedo offers visitors a glimpse into traditional Somali culture and a chance to explore its fascinating landscapes. Its unspoiled nature makes it ideal for activities such as camel riding, bird watching and visiting historical sites.

Popular tourist attractions in Gedo include Garbaharey, known for its diverse wildlife; El Wak, which has some of the best birdwatching spots in Somalia; and Wajid, an ancient trading city with archaeological ruins from centuries ago.

The region is also home to various ancient settlements including Dhamasilinwa - an important center of Islamic learning during medieval times - as well as several fortresses that are said to date back thousands of years. In addition, there are stunning views of Lake Chew Bahar - one of Africa's oldest lakes - and breathtaking vistas from Mount Bamo-Cadey peak that soars over 3200 meters above sea level.
