Visit Lower Juba


The Lower Juba region of Somalia is located in the southeastern part of the country, bordering the Indian Ocean. It's known for its colorful cultural heritage, beautiful beaches and lush national parks. Tourists flock to this region to experience a unique combination of modern amenities and old-world charm.

A few must-visit tourist sites include Liido Beach, an iconic beachfront strip popular for fishing and sunbathing; Kismaayo National Park, with its diverse wildlife habitats featuring vibrant bird life; and Laas Geel rock shelters, ancient caves filled with 4500 year-old Neolithic cave paintings.

In addition, Lower Juba is home to several historical sites from the colonial period such as Jamaa Mosque which was built in 1844 by the British rulers during their occupation of Somalia. This mosque is one of the oldest Ottoman mosques still standing today in present day Somalia.
