Visit Shabeellaha Dhexe


Shabeellaha Dhexe, also known as the Middle Shabelle region, is located in central Somalia. This region is home to many important cities and towns including Jowhar, Mahaddey, Bal'ad and Buuloburde. It borders Hiran to the north-west and Lower Shabelle to the south-west.

For tourists looking to explore this part of Somalia there are plenty of attractions that can be explored. One popular site is Sidi Ali Academy in Jowhar which dates back to the medieval period. Here visitors will find a unique Islamic graveyard with an intricate architecture featuring intricate carvings made by local artisans. There is also Shabele Valley National Park which offers stunning views of the natural scenery amidst diverse wildlife such as antelopes, gazelles and cheetahs.

The Middle Shabelle region was home to several prominent historical figures during its long history including Sheikh Abdirahman Bin Ismail al Jabarti who introduced Sufism into this area in the 16th century.
