Visit Togdheer

Togdheer is a province located in the northwestern region of Somalia. It is bordered by Ethiopia to the south, Somaliland to the west, and Awdal region to the east. This strategically significant region has a long history of foreign domination due to its geographical position. The main economic activities in Togdheer include animal husbandry and crop cultivation.

The most interesting tourist attractions in Togdheer include Las Geel (a neolithic cave painting site near Hargeisa), Sheikh Isaaq Tomb (a pilgrimage site for Somali Muslims) and Laas Gaal (a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site). These sites offer visitors an insight into this culturally rich land.

An interesting historical fact about this province is that it was once part of British Somaliland Protectorate, which was under British control until 1960 when it achieved independence from Britain as part of Somalia after a failed referendum calling for Somaliland autonomy from Somalia . Today Togdheer remains one of the most important provinces in Somalia with its unique culture, landscape and historical sites making it worth visiting.
