Visit Togdheer Region

The Togdheer region of Somalia is an area of natural beauty and historic significance, situated in the north-western part of the nation. The region's landscape is made up of flat and fertile grassland that serves as the country's agricultural center, bordered by mountains to the north and east.

Two must-see destinations in Togdheer are Lake Abdi Guled and Las Qoray, both offering stunning views. Lake Abdi Guled is a vast freshwater lake with many small creeks cutting into its shoreline; it's a popular fishing spot for locals. Las Qoray is an ancient ruins site dating back to 2nd century AD when it was a wealthy trading port; here visitors can explore hundreds of buildings including tombs and towers still standing from medieval times.

Togdheer has been home to many civilizations throughout history - most recently Somalis who were displaced during periods of conflict across their homeland, making this region one of unique cultural diversity today. An interesting historical fact about this area is that it was once part of British Somaliland Protectorate which was granted independence from Britain in 1960 before joining together with Italian Somalia to form modern day Somalia.
