Visit Asturias

The autonomous community of Asturias is a region located in northwestern Spain. The climate here is mild and humid, with lush green forests and rolling hills.

The main tourist attractions in Asturias include the Covadonga Lakes National Park, which is known for its spectacular views of the Picos de Europa mountain range; the old fishing port city of Gijon with its charming marina; and the magnificent Pre-Romanesque churches dotted throughout Oviedo.

Asturias has a rich history dating back to its Roman origins, when it was part of Hispania. In 722 A.D., King Pelagius led his people to victory over the Moors in Covadonga, which marks the origin of Christian Spain. This event is celebrated annually on August 10th at one of Spain's most popular pilgrimage sites: Santuario de la Virgen de Covadonga.
