The Royal Palace of Madrid is an impressive baroque-style palace with over 2,000 rooms and a large collection of artwork. The Prado Museum houses one of the world's finest collections of European art from the 12th century to the early 19th century. A visit to Retiro Park offers a breath of fresh air with tranquil meadows, lush gardens and several grand monuments sprinkled throughout it's grounds.

Madrid has been a great influence in Spanish history since 1561 when Phillip II made it his home. During this time it was transformed from an isolated mountain village into one of Europe's leading cultural capitals with princes, scholars and artists flocking to its court from all over Europe. Madrid also played host to some famous figures such as Cervantes who wrote Don Quixote de la Mancha here in 1605!
