Discover Ferrol

Ferrol is a coastal city located in Galicia, Spain. It is well-known for being the birthplace of famous Spanish explorer Francisco de Orellana (the first European to navigate the Amazon River). Although relatively small - with a population of just over 70,000 people - it is an important port for commercial and military vessels alike. Ferrol has a rich culture and history which can be seen through its charming Old Town area, picturesque promenades that run along the waterfront, and traditional architecture throughout the town centre.

Visitors to Ferrol should take time to explore Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas; an impressively massive stone fortress which overlooks the harbour from nearby Monte Porchedo hilltop. Other interesting places include Magdalena Palace; once home to Spain's royal families; Praza da Escravitude; a square filled with local restaurants and bars where you can listen to traditional music while enjoying food or drinks; and Parque Miguel Torga, a beautiful park featuring fountains, gardens, playgrounds and walking paths.
